Ontario is Canada's most populous province, and most of its homes heat with gas. That gives boiler installers a large pool of potential buyers, but also a noisy one: general HVAC companies across the province bid on heating terms. Boiler installers win here by narrowing the focus, not by outspending the furnace shops.
The Ontario boiler market
Short answer: a mostly gas-heated province where combis, condensing boilers and radiator retrofits are all strong products, and where each city is its own competitive market.
Statistics Canada reports that 58% of Ontario households used natural gas as their main heating energy in 2023, 18% electricity and 4% propane. Within that market, boiler buyers tend to fall into a few groups:
- Owners of older homes with radiators, often with an ageing atmospheric boiler and a rental water heater, who are curious about a combi
- Owners of newer custom homes with in-floor radiant heat who want a better boiler or controls
- Propane-heated rural homes where fuel cost and reliability drive the decision
- Homeowners with a rented water heater, who may want to know whether a combi could replace both the boiler and the tank
If rented tanks are common in your service area, that angle deserves a careful page of its own: a plain explainer of combi options, with no claims about anyone's rental contract, sent to the homeowner's own provider for contract questions.
The largest cities (Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, London, Markham and Vaughan) each have their own competitors and search patterns. We plan them as separate markets.
Climate and seasonality
Short answer: cold winters moderated near the Great Lakes in the south, with longer, colder seasons in the north.
In southern Ontario, the heating season is long but rarely extreme for weeks on end, which means demand comes in waves around cold snaps. Northern Ontario sees longer, harsher winters and more urgent no-heat calls. A northern campaign should not run on a Toronto calendar.
Planned replacements in the south often happen in spring, summer and early fall. Emergency demand peaks with the first serious cold.
Regulators to know
Short answer: TSSA for fuels and boilers, ESA for electrical licensing, Skilled Trades Ontario for certification and WSIB for workplace insurance.
- TSSA oversees fuels, boilers and pressure vessels. Only TSSA-registered fuels contractors, using certified gas technicians, may carry out fuels-related work.
- ESA handles electrical safety and electrical contractor licensing.
- Skilled Trades Ontario handles trade certification.
- WSIB covers workplace insurance.
For marketing, that means listing your TSSA registration accurately and never implying a licence or certification you don't hold. Compliance questions belong with TSSA.
Programs: what applies and what doesn't
Short answer: as of October 2026, Ontario's main home-energy rebates target heat pumps and envelope upgrades, not gas boilers.
- The Home Renovation Savings Program, run by Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas with provincial support, lists rebates for cold-climate air-source and ground-source heat pumps, smart thermostats, insulation and other measures.
- The Energy Affordability Program provides free upgrades to income-eligible households.
For a gas boiler installer, that means ads should not hint at a rebate. Instead, lead with what's true: lower fuel use from a modulating condensing unit, freed-up space from removing a tank, quieter operation. Always confirm program terms with the administrator before publishing.
How we'd market an Ontario boiler installer
Short answer: pick your cities, go narrow, and build content around the questions Ontario boiler owners actually have.
- City-by-city campaigns through combi lead generation, limited to the municipalities your crews reach.
- Content clusters through hydronic SEO: rental tank to combi, radiator boiler replacement, propane boiler options.
- Map and review work in each city, because map results drive a large share of boiler calls.
- Northern campaigns on their own calendar, if you serve the north.

Frequently asked questions
Are there Ontario rebates for gas boilers or combis?
As of October 2026, the Home Renovation Savings Program we reviewed lists rebates for heat pumps, thermostats, insulation and other upgrades, not gas boilers. Check the Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas program pages before you mention any incentive.
Who regulates gas boiler installers in Ontario?
TSSA oversees fuels, boilers and pressure vessels, and only TSSA-registered fuels contractors using certified gas technicians may do fuels-related work. ESA handles electrical licensing. We link to them; we don't advise on compliance.
Is the Greater Toronto Area too expensive for boiler ads?
General heating terms in the GTA are expensive. Boiler-only terms are narrower and usually cheaper per booked job, especially when campaigns are limited to the municipalities you actually serve.
Do you work with HVAC.Digital as well?
Yes. HVAC.Digital is our group's Ontario-focused HVAC marketing brand, and Ontario boiler clients can draw on both.
